E-mail marketing: the subject importance – Part 2

WebHat_Newsletter_writerGood morning! Today we’ll talk again about the topic “newsletter subject”. As I mentioned earlier in the 10th of April’s post (“E-mail marketing: the importance of the subject“) the subject of a newsletter is NEVER to be overlooked and today we will see some of the rules you need to follow to create an effective text.

1) The object of the DEM should be consistent with the sender.
Remember sender and subject are the first items that present your message to the user.

Good examples:
1. Sender: “KeyCode”
Subject: “KeyCode participates in B Com: come to Turin on April 18!”

2. Sender: “news@keycode.it”
Subject: “KeyCode launches new release of WebHat: here are the new features!”

Bad examples:
1. Sender: “v.ferrari@pincopallino.it”
Subject: “KeyCode participates in B Com: come to Turin on April 18!”

2. Sender: “Software Brescia”
Subject: “KeyCode launches new release of WebHat: here are the new features!”

2) The text of the object must be concise and effective
The “subject” field may contain 50/60 characters but we recommend you to use only 20/30 characters because our e-mail will also be displayed on mobile devices. You need to summarize in few words the content of the marketing campaign, encouraging the user to open your message and invite him to do something immediately (call to action). Avoid inserting too general or misleading texts (example: “Offers”, “Incredibles news”, “You can not live without it”), which might disappoint. You can also exclude the date of your message because it’s just redundant information since it is already shown in all email clients.

3) Anti-spam
The content of the subject is one of the factors that will determine whether your newsletter will be classified as “spam”.
Checking this probability with WebHatNewsletter is simple: just click on the “Anti-spam control” in the editor and a panel will display the chance that you will end up in the “spam” folder.
